What changed for 2014?
More lights were added along the house. And LED's are now being incorporated into the display - you can see the bright blue
lights in the river rock. There's 3500 blue LED's in that river.
How long does it take to set up the lights?
It takes about 10 calendar days to get the lights unpacked, installed and all the wires pulled.
How many lights are there?
There's just over 23,000 lights
How much power & current does the display consume?
The display consumes just under 75 Amps, which means it approaches 9000 Watts, 9kw. It varies around the 75 amp reading since there
are some lights that are twinkling and some shapes have moving parts so there are variations in the current being drawn at an given time.
How many icicle lights are there?
There's almost 6000 icicles lights that go around the front and half way on the side of the house as well as the fences on both sides of the house.
How much does it cost to run the lights?
For the holiday season, it will add about $150-$200 extra to the electricity bill
How many extension cords do you use?
The exact number will be known after I take it down,
catalog it, and pack it away since several are made each year on the spot.
At last count (for the main lines) there was over 4000 feet of extension cords. There's
about 120 extensions of varying lengths. I'll have more exact numbers when I take it down, catalog it, and pack it up.
How did you choose the color scheme?
Most of the credit for the color scheme goes to my wife
Sarah. She's had lots of good ideas on colors and how
to mix them for the different plants around the yard.
Sarah is also usually the one picking the animated
shapes. This years's addition was the the large deer and the dog near the entrance way.
What are the plans for 2015?
Add many more lights of course! We're always thinking of
new things that we can add or change. And finally get to the automation and synchornizing to music - time permitting.
